Jesus Disciples Should Be Meek

Jesus disciples have their strength under control

Matthew 5:5  "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Matthew 11:29  Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

James 3:13-18  If you are wise and understand God's ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.

14  But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don't cover up the truth with boasting and lying.  15  For jealousy and selfishness are not God's kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic.  16  For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.  17  But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.  18  And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

Meek- 1. Mild of temper; soft; gentle; not easily provoked or irritated; yielding; given to forbearance under injuries. 2. Appropriately, humble, in an evangelical sense; submissive to the divine will; not proud, self-sufficient or refractory; not peevish and apt to complain of divine dispensations. Christ says, "Learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest to your souls." Mat 11.   -Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary of American English

In order to be a disciple I need to act like Jesus. That raises the question,  how did Jesus behave? Jesus describes himself in Matthew 11:29 as "humble and gentle at heart", how did that look in his everyday life?

For one thing Jesus gave up his right to be right, well he was right and he knew it but most of the people around him didn't think he was right. Don't you have a difficult time when you are so sure that you are right about something and you can't get somebody else to believe that you are right? Jesus didn't worry about it.

What else did Jesus do that showed him as "humble and gentle at heart?" He never demanded that he get what he was entitled to. He had every right to have everybody bow down and worship him but instead he walked this earth for thirty three years and was almost never treated with the respect that he was entitled to.

As Jesus disciple I have no right to be jealous and there cannot be selfishness in my heart. I need to be "peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others."

Lord help me to go against the norm of human reasoning and allow meekness to be a lifestyle so that others can see Jesus through my life.
