Jesus Authority Empowers His Disciples

Exercise your power to change the world.

Matthew 28:18  Jesus came and told His disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

Luke 24:49 "And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as My Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven."

Acts 1:6-8 So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking Him, "Lord, has the time come for You to free Israel and restore our kingdom?"

7 He replied, "The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be My witnesses, telling people about Me everywhere--in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Jesus victory over the grave has changed the disciples, these guys would never be the same now, the good news that Jesus is alive has turned their grief into joy. Not only is Jesus back but he is talking a lot about his authority and power. Was it finally time for the coming kingdom to be established?

Jesus didn't want his disciples to waste time on trying to figure out what is impossible to know. God is the only one that knows the timing of the kingdom, God is the first line of authority above every other, the kingdom is still not here but we don't need to fret about it.

We are not waiting all alone and defeated, Jesus has given us a companion and a source of power to help us, Jesus would no longer be with them physically but that is okay because there is something better on the way.

After the resurrection, Jesus exercised his power and sent the Holy Spirit so that we would be empowered as his followers to successfully live as an ambassador for his kingdom. We have everything that we need to complete the work that Jesus started.

In the Great Commission Jesus gives his followers the authority to go into all the world to make disciples. After these new disciples are made we have the authority to baptize and teach them.

I need to exercise my authority and invest my time in building the kingdom of God instead of building my own kingdom.
