He Is A Big God

SCRIPTURE

Acts 17

OBSERVATION

The gospel reached Greece in chapter 16 when Paul and Silas went to Philippi.

Now after being thrown in jail and then being asked to leave town they head toward Thessalonica where they encountered more trouble. For three weeks he taught them about Christ, many people in the crowds were persuaded and became believers but there were troublemakers in the crowd as well. They had to sneak out of town and just down the road they came to Berea.

The Bereans accepted Paul’s message even better than the Thessalonians did for they were diligent to search the scripture and verify what Paul was teaching to them. Never the less he was still sent packing and now he reached Athens.

In Athens they were accustomed to hearing many different philosophies and beliefs and they allowed Paul to speak without any threats of harm. Paul spoke from Mars Hill about the multitude of gods that they worshiped, he gave this speech just across from the Acropolis which had temples to pagan gods, across from the Acropolis were other temples.

No wonder he told them that our God "made the world and everything in it, and since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn't live in man-made temples” (Acts 17:24)

Our God is too big for that!

APPLICATION

I will remember that you are the big God that I can depend on and trust in.

PRAYER

Help me understand that you are big enough to handle anything that comes my way. Help me to remember that you alone sustain me and you are always with me.
