Not Gonna Give In

Men of the Bible Series - Scary situation for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego

Daniel 3: 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you.

17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty.

18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

Sometimes life is pretty scary, you can feel like a cat in a pack of dogs, just waiting for someone to take a bite. Imagine being in such a hostile environment a very wicked country and their evil king tells you to do something, what's your next move?

It is easy to try and define bravery as "not being scared" but that wouldn't be an accurate definition. I am pretty sure that the three Jews that were about to be thrown into the furnace were as scared as anybody would be. Few people actually want to die, I am sure that they would rather not and if they had families they would be in hard times without them, life was hard enough already from being in exile.

It is so easy to take a stand for God from where we are and yet, too many times we pass up the opportunity. Our fear level is so low that we care too much about what the world will say or how they will look at us if we are seen as different for Jesus.

As God's child, I must never be ashamed of Him. No matter how adverse the situation, I must be bold and unshaken in my witness.

Help us to be brave for you Lord and stop being concerned about how much we are different. Different is what you called us to be.
