Are You His Child?

scripture

John 1:10 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. 11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. 12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

observation

Do you remember what it was like to be a child? Think about how you treat your children or better yet your grandchildren? You give them everything that they need to survive and then you also give them things that will help them to thrive.

They need food and shelter and safety and that’s what they get to the best of your ability to provide it. But you probably go way beyond what they need to survive and you give them things that will help them to thrive and be prosperous in this life. Through our children we learn how to be giving and how to look out for someone else’s welfare.

I helped my son to get a car that was in better condition than any of the ones that he could afford. While we were driving back to the dealer to buy the car that we had decided on I told him that I was giving him the tools to help him get started in life so that he would be able to thrive on his own, tools like solid transportation, but also less tangible things like Christian values, standing up for those values, spending time in the word and knowing how God would want you to behave.

Maybe you didn’t have it that good with your father but God is the perfect Father and he wants to take care of his children, give them food, shelter and help them to thrive. He is a father that can be trusted for these things, he didn’t promise an easy life but he will bless you and sustain you.

Whose child are you?

Matthew 5:9 God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

John 12:36 Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.”

Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

Galatians 3:26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 2:15 So that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.

1 John 3:10 So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.

application

It may be difficult to fully remember what it was like to be a child, looking up to your parent for all your needs but I need to remember to trust God in the same way. I also need to learn be a good member of the family, one that won’t embarrass the rest of the family members, my Heavenly Father will help me to know how to behave as one of his children should.

prayer

I want to be a member of your family that will not be embarrassing to you. Help me to trust you for every need that I have.
