Let Your Light Shine

Why would you hide your light from the world's view?

Luke 8:16-17  “No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.

For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.

Ecclesiastes 10:14  God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.

Jesus is using parables that are very simple and are very logical, yesterday I looked at Luke 8:4-15 about the Sower throwing his seed on the various types of soil and now in Luke 8:16-18, Jesus uses another very logical story to teach a lesson.

In this lesson Jesus brings up the fact that it would be silly for somebody to light a lamp and then hide it, what's the purpose in doing that? I'm glad you asked. There are some reasons why but none of them are good reasons to hide your light.

The first reason that I can think of is that they are up to no good, a lot of mischief and criminal activity happens in the dark, we would be risky to have our light shining bright as it will expose the truth and allow our sin to be seen. If you are up to no good, the last thing that you want is for somebody to shine the light on you.
John 3:20-21  All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.
The other reason to hide their light is that they are afraid of being persecuted for shining the light, Christ told us that there would be people that would not like us or they may threaten us.
Matthew 10:26-27  But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. 27 What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear!
I need to let my light shine in this dark world without hesitation.

Help me to live brightly Lord. I want my good deeds to shine and show people the way to  you.
