Jesus Power Over Sickness

Jesus didn't heal everybody but he did touch as many lives as he could.

Luke 8:43-46  A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure. 44 Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.

45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. Everyone denied it, and Peter said, “Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you.” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.”

Luke 14:1-4  One Sabbath day Jesus went to eat dinner in the home of a leader of the Pharisees, and the people were watching him closely. 2 There was a man there whose arms and legs were swollen. 3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in religious law, “Is it permitted in the law to heal people on the Sabbath day, or not?” 4 When they refused to answer, Jesus touched the sick man and healed him and sent him away

Luke 17:11-14   As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. 12 As he entered a village there, ten lepers stood at a distance, 13 crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.

Jesus came into history during a time that his chosen people were in bondage, many were hurting both physically and spiritually, his people needed a healer.  Jesus looked upon the crowds and was filled with compassion.

Ask most people that study the Bible and they will probably tell you that Jesus healed as a means of proving his divinity. I think that there is a much more personal reason that Jesus healed.

Jesus was preaching about love for God and love for others (Mark 12:30-31) it told us over and over again that we are to love. Jesus being the greatest teacher that ever lived didn't just tell us what to do, he showed us how to do it. He is not only preaching compassion, he is modeling it for us.
Colossians 3:12  Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Jesus didn't heal everybody but he did give us a model of compassion. We cannot heal people but we are called to be tenderhearted and compassionate towards those that are hurting. The best way for us to prove that we love like Jesus is for us to try and improve the circumstances of the hurting people that are all around us.

Thank you Lord for your example of love, help me to have your eyes and see the pain and help me to be your arms to hug the hurting.
